Today, Tuesday, President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, presented with the Army Commander, General Rodolphe Haykal, at Baabda Palace, the security situation in the country, and the army’s expected missions during the next phase, in light of the results of the Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations, and the resulting “framework agreement” aimed at ending the war on Lebanon. President Aoun also briefed General Heikal on the results of the talks he held during his visits to Turkey and the United Kingdom, within the framework of enhancing military cooperation with the two countries. In this context, the President of the Republic noted the role played by the army, its leadership, officers, and individuals, in extending state authority, maintaining security and stability, controlling borders, and protecting civil peace. He stressed that the campaigns against the military institution and its leadership from time to time, and the skepticism and slander they contain, will not affect its national performance, which is committed to the decisions of the political authority, and will not undermine the confidence of officials and the Lebanese in it.
