Assistant to the head of the Phalange Party for Political and Electoral Affairs, Serge Dagher, confirmed that the May 17 agreement was not called by that name, but rather “the agreement to evacuate the Israeli army from Lebanon,” noting that President Amin Gemayel did not sign it after he informed the Israeli side that he would not withdraw if the Syrian army did not withdraw from Lebanon, and therefore it was not signed. Dagher said that what is being raised in some discussions about the US-Iranian agreement indicates that Iran is requesting a ceasefire on its arm in Lebanon, namely Hezbollah specifically. Regarding Hezbollah’s weapons, he explained that the party said that the President of the Republic should have used the “power cards” that Lebanon possesses, which are intended for the party’s weapons, wondering whether the party was ready to hand over this weapon to the Lebanese state. Dagher added that Hezbollah affirms its commitment to the ceasefire agreement while Israel continues to violate it, pointing out that the agreement stipulates that Israel stops its hostilities when Hezbollah hands over its weapons, which has not happened so far. He continued, "During our visit to the President of the Republic a few days ago, he said that it is not a treaty that we sign, but rather a 'framework' from which we start, and if it needs to be amended, we do so."
