Minister of Culture Ghassan Salama wrote through his account on the “X” platform, after including the five castles of Jabal Amel (Beaufort, Tibnine, Doubia, Deir Kifa, and Shama) on the List of World Heritage in Danger by the World Heritage Committee at the UNESCO conference in Busan, South Korea: “I thank everyone who worked in the Ministry of Culture and in the Lebanese delegation to UNESCO, the leadership of the organization and the countries that supported the Lebanese position for this distinguished achievement, knowing that the quest to protect our cultural property from aggression, occupation and destruction will not stop one day in the coming time. We know that one was destroyed, a second was threatened with explosion, and a third was occupied yesterday, but the despicable attacks on our historical monuments increased our determination to assert Lebanon’s sovereignty over the five castles of Jabal Amel and to place them on the preliminary list of World Heritage. This is exactly what the Heritage Committee unanimously decided this morning!”
