The President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, announced, during his meeting with French Minister of Justice Gérard Darmanin, in the presence of Justice Minister Adel Nassar, that “Israel’s successive attacks, killing of innocents, children and women, destruction and burning of homes and bulldozing of property are condemnable, unacceptable and unjustified crimes. They target the path of the framework agreement and undermine all efforts made to stop the escalation in the south and the region as a whole.”
He stressed that "Lebanon supports the renewal of the international force in the south, and we are working with President Macron to facilitate the renewal," welcoming "the French and Italian initiative to form a European force to fill the void after the withdrawal of UNIFIL."
He said: “My visit next week is to Paris to participate alongside President Macron in the opening of the preparatory meeting for the international conference to support the army and internal security forces, and to discuss the issue of the international force in the south.”
As for the French Minister of Justice, he praised the reforms achieved so far, especially the abolition of the death penalty: Lebanon can always rely on France and we will continue to cooperate with the Lebanese Ministry of Justice and accompany Lebanon on the courageous reform path it has chosen, especially since implementing this path is a basic condition for achieving Lebanon’s independence and sovereignty.
