Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa received United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today, Saturday, at the People's Palace in Damascus. Guterres and his accompanying delegation arrived at Damascus International Airport this morning, and was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, as part of a historic visit to Syria, which is considered the first by the Secretary-General of the United Nations since 2009. Following his arrival in Damascus, Guterres confirmed through his account on the (X) platform that the United Nations stands with Syria at this critical moment. Adding that he came to her on a solidarity visit. Through his blog, Guterres appealed to the international community to spare no effort to support the Syrian people. Before Guterres' arrival, the United Nations announced that its Secretary-General would confirm the commitment to support the Syrian government and people at this crucial stage in the country's history, and would stress the importance of respecting Syria's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. She also indicated that the visit will also constitute an opportunity to closely examine the hopes and challenges facing the Syrians and learn about the effects of the long years of war.
