The Minister of Education and Higher Education, Rima Karami, received the French Ambassador, Herve Magro, on a farewell visit on the occasion of the end of his duties in Lebanon, accompanied by the official of the French Cultural Center in Lebanon and the director of the French Development Agency (AFD). The research addressed the needs of the Ministry of Education and ways of French support for its development plans in public and higher education. Karami thanked Ambassador Magro for the permanent French support for the educational sector in Lebanon, especially regarding the issue of preparing the new curricula in terms of securing expertise and funding to begin the process of implementing them. For his part, Magro congratulated Karami on completing the curriculum decree and expressed his country's intention to help Lebanon secure the necessary funding to complete this historic step. In a related context, there was clarification about the course of the agreement concluded between French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam regarding exempting Lebanese students in France from registration fees. There was confirmation from the French ambassador that the issue was an internal French matter between the French embassy in Lebanon on the one hand and the French Ministry of Education on the other. The French ambassador stated that he personally was the one who sought this initiative, which was adopted by President Macron, based on the difficult circumstances that Lebanon is experiencing.
