Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa expressed his hope that the agreement between Israel and Syria would constitute a gateway to comprehensive peace, without prejudice to Syria's right to the occupied Golan, noting that Damascus is working to reach a security agreement with Israel. Al-Sharaa added, in an interview with Al Jazeera, that his country is avoiding a clash with Israel and does not see an interest in engaging in any confrontation with it, pointing out that the success of the current security arrangements may open the way to a broader settlement. The Syrian President stressed that Damascus does not intend any military intervention in Lebanon, noting that his country is discussing with the Lebanese government ways to help overcome the crisis and bring Lebanon to safety. He stressed that addressing the Lebanese crisis is not limited to the security approach, but rather requires a comprehensive solution that addresses its various dimensions, warning that any state of chaos in Lebanon will have a direct impact on Syria. Al-Sharaa also announced Damascus’ support for restricting weapons and making peace and war decisions in the hands of the Lebanese state, expressing his fears of the expansion of the war in the region and the regional repercussions that might result from it. In other files, the Syrian President said that lifting the economic sanctions imposed on his country would not be completely effective unless Syria was removed from the list of states sponsoring terrorism. Al-Sharaa pointed out that there is a slowdown in implementing the agreement concluded with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), stressing that the government is still betting on its success. Regarding the missing persons file, Al-Sharaa explained that the Syrian authorities formed a special committee to manage this file according to international standards, in cooperation with countries that have specialized expertise in this field.
