The President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, condemned the ongoing violations and attacks carried out by Israel in southern Lebanon, especially the bombings targeting infrastructure and archaeological monuments listed on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the massive damage they cause and serious repercussions affecting most of the villages in southern Lebanon, and threatening the safety and security of citizens. President Aoun considered that the huge explosions recorded today in Beaufort Castle, which caused ground waves equivalent to an earthquake measuring 3.8 degrees on the Richter scale, according to the National Center for Geophysics, constitute an extremely dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of existing obligations. It also represents a direct threat to the path that was launched under the framework agreement, and whose obligations Lebanon has committed to implementing. The President of the Republic indicated that the timing of these attacks, on the eve of the session scheduled in Rome to complete the discussion on the implementation of the tripartite framework of action, sends negative messages and undermines international efforts aimed at establishing stability, calling on the sponsors and the international community to assume their responsibilities and put an end to these violations that threaten the chances of progress on the diplomatic track and undermine security and stability in southern Lebanon.
