Prime Minister Nawaf Salam wrote through his account on the “X” platform:  “Today we are faced with those who accuse the political authority of being “aid to Israel instead of helping Lebanon’s sovereignty,” then calling for dialogue and unity as if the Lebanese had no memory. The truth is that the greatest assistance to Israel was provided by those who singled out Lebanon for engaging in absurd “support” war adventures, and giving it pretexts to attack our country, trample its sovereignty, destroy its cities and villages, kill its people, and displace them by the hundreds of thousands. Whoever is the only one who decides to go to war and tries to continue confiscating the state’s decision, and linking Lebanon to external accounts and axes, ignoring the interests of his environment and the Lebanese in general, cannot distribute certificates in patriotism, let alone in sovereignty. There is no sovereignty for Lebanon except through one independent decision in a state with one army, which extends its authority over its entire territory exclusively by its own forces. As for dialogue and unity, they can only be built with the courage to acknowledge the facts despite their bitterness, and by bearing responsibility for the reckless choices for which the Lebanese are still paying dear prices. The state remains an embrace for all the Lebanese, especially for our people who have suffered losses, one after another. It remains committed to removing the Israeli occupation from every inch of our land and returning all our prisoners. It is committed to securing the conditions for the dignified and safe return of our people to their cities, villages, fields and homes and rebuilding them in a way that contributes to healing the wounds of all the injured families with their loved ones and their livelihoods. It also remains that abandoning the language of betrayal and being honest in calling for dialogue and national solidarity is our most effective way to strengthen Lebanon’s ability to confront all these grave challenges.”
