This morning, Thursday, August 6, Japan commemorated the 81st anniversary of the nuclear bombing of the city of Hiroshima, where a memorial ceremony was held for the victims of the first nuclear attack in human history. At the same time, Japan called on the international community to intensify efforts for peace and nuclear disarmament, amid the ongoing global security instability, which makes the call to prevent nuclear war more urgent. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi announced her country's commitment to the three non-nuclear principles, stressing that the tragedy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki must not be repeated, calling for a world free of nuclear weapons. Takaichi said, during the ceremony commemorating the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, that Japan is ready to lead the efforts of the international community to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons, stressing the importance of preserving and strengthening the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty system. She added that a single atomic bomb "destroyed normal life in Hiroshima in an instant, took the lives of a huge number of victims, burned the city to the ground, and destroyed everything its residents had built and their hopes for the future."
