Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam chaired a meeting devoted to following up on Lebanese preparations for the expected arrangements related to the transit of Iraqi crude oil and oil derivatives through Lebanon, in the presence of the Minister of Energy and Water, Joe Al-Sadi, the Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Hajjar, the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamni, the Director General of Public Security, Major General Hassan Shukair, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Customs, Brigadier General Mesbah Khalil, and the Director General of Customs, Gracia Al-Qazzi. During the meeting, the readiness of the various sectors and departments concerned was discussed, in light of Lebanon’s expected role, in the first phase, as a center for storing and re-exporting oil. The research addressed the necessary logistical and infrastructure needs, especially the rehabilitation of a number of roads to facilitate the movement of tanks, and raising the readiness of border crossings to accommodate the expected movement, in addition to organizing traffic towards storage sites. Preparations related to storage facilities, safety requirements and operational procedures that must be completed were also reviewed. It was agreed to continue coordination and follow-up between the ministries, agencies and departments concerned, to ensure the completion of the required preparations within the specified deadlines, and to ensure the necessary readiness at the logistical and operational levels.
