The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the security services in Damascus carried out a campaign of raids targeting a number of relatives of the former Major General in the Syrian regime, Rustom Ghazaleh, noting that the arrests came against the backdrop of suspicions related to attempts to influence ongoing security prosecutions by offering bribes. The Observatory pointed out that the arrests included Rustom Ghazali’s two brothers, Hamza and Nazem Abdo al-Talib al-Ghazali, and his brother’s son, Colonel Ajwad al-Ghazali, in addition to Jamal Muhammad Jamal al-Ghazali and Abdo al-Malik al-Ghazali. He confirmed that the operation came after intelligence follow-up that proved the involvement of some of the detainees in attempts to pay sums of money to cover up their whereabouts, noting the existence of video clips documenting this. The Syrian Observatory stressed that pursuing those accused of committing crimes and violations is a legitimate right for the victims and their families, warning of the danger of field liquidation or retaliation outside the framework of the law.
