Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam chaired a meeting devoted to following up on return and recovery efforts in a number of southern villages, in the presence of the President of the Southern Council, Mr. Hashem Haider, the Secretary-General of the Higher Relief Commission, Brigadier General Bassam Nabulsi, and the Director of the Central Operations Room in the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Mr. Zahi Shaheen.
The meeting focused on following up on the ongoing work in the villages of Faroun, Qalawayh, Srifa, Burj Qalawayh, Zawtar al-Gharbiya, and Ghandouriya, and the steps required to accelerate the return of the people to them and restore basic services there.
President Salam stressed the need to accelerate the procedures for purchasing ready-made housing units in these villages by the Southern Council and the Higher Relief Commission.
He also instructed the Southern Council to begin carrying out repair work in the homes that were not completely destroyed in these villages, in order to facilitate the return of the people to their villages and homes.
President Salam asked those concerned to coordinate with the Ministry of Social Affairs to provide cash support to cover rental fees for the people returning from these villages.
