Member of the “Strong Republic” bloc, MP Pierre Bou Assi, confirmed that granting courtesy residency to the Iranian, Muhammad Al-Shaibani, after the government declared him an “undesirable person” and asked him to leave Lebanese territory, constitutes a blow to the state’s prestige. He indicated in an interview on “Lebanon TV” with the journalist Mona Al-Ali that according to the law, the Director General of Public Security has the right to give him a courtesy stay, but he added: “The powers of a state employee do not give him the right to overthrow the government’s decision. I am not aware of a similar precedent in the history of Lebanon.” Bou Assi clarified that the decision to expel Shibani did not come out of nowhere, adding: “Diplomats must respect the Lebanese state and not interfere in our internal affairs, and this is what Shibani has not done since his arrival. In addition, the statements of Iranian officials do not show any respect for Lebanon through their statements. Not to mention supplying an armed faction, the “Party,” with money, men, and weapons. Is there another country that sends fighters and officers to Lebanon? Of course not.” In response to a question: Where is the problem if there is openness and dialogue between Hezbollah, Syria, and the United States? He replied: “Basically, there is no indication from the American administration that it accepts this offer.” But the problem is that the “party” betrayed all those who called for this in the first place. Did he not want to destroy colonialism, arrogance, Israel, America, and everyone who criticizes the Syrian regime and the axis of resistance? Did not at least two thousand Hezbollah fighters fall fighting in Syria in defense of a dictator named Bashar al-Assad, who, with the help of Hezbollah and Iran, killed five hundred thousand of his own people? Did he not adopt Khomeini literature and that the United States is the “Great Satan” and must be eliminated, and today he extends his hand to it for the sake of openness? Did he not accuse a broad political class of Lebanese and the “Lebanese Forces” among them that we are agents of the Great Satan. So at least, if a person is honorable in His position says: “I made a mistake on this path, and I will try to adopt another path.” You cannot say to me: “I was right in all of this path, and today I want to take the opposite path, and I am still right in both matters.” He continued: “I address the so-called “party” audience. Is he satisfied with this path, whether it was his involvement in Syria, or the six missiles that were fired at Israel that led to the destruction of half of Lebanon, or the openness today to America and Syria? The “party” must tell us exactly its position on this matter and clearly announce the confused path it is taking.”
