The Jounieh Municipality issued the following: To clarify what happened this afternoon in the vicinity of the Holiday Suites Hotel in Jounieh, and the anxiety and panic that accompanied it among some citizens, the Jounieh Municipality would like to clarify the following: A Syrian worker working near the hotel received a phone call stating the need to evacuate the site, claiming that the neighboring building was targeted and might be hit within ten minutes. As a result of this anonymous call, an atmosphere of anxiety prevailed in the place. Immediately upon being informed of the matter, the Jounieh Municipality took quick precautionary measures in coordination with the relevant agencies, as a precautionary security cordon was implemented and the Holiday Suites Hotel and the surrounding area were evacuated within a radius of approximately 500 meters, in order to preserve the safety of municipal employees, citizens, guests and workers. At the same time, the municipality contacted the competent security services, which began work to verify the authenticity and source of this communication and determine whether it was a false alarm or not. The Municipality of Jounieh assures citizens that all measures are taken with the utmost responsibility and concern for public safety, and that these measures fall within the framework of the necessary preventive measures imposed by such cases. In this context, the municipality reminds that it is constantly keen to verify the identities of guests and residents within its municipal jurisdiction, and requests all owners of apartments, buildings, warehouses, and real estate units not to rent or occupy any apartment, room, warehouse, or any space, whether temporarily or permanently, before reviewing the municipality and obtaining prior approval. The municipality also calls on all citizens to remain highly vigilant and attentive and to coordinate with it in the event of suspicion of anything abnormal, stressing that it will hear and respond to any communication via the number: 09913000 - extension number 113.
