Makhzoumi sends a message to Nawaf Salam: What is required are decisions, not slogans
Fady Mahouly
Representative Fouad Makhzoumi wrote through his account on the “X” platform:
“Your Excellency President Nawaf Salam, the Lebanese people are not protected by slogans but by decisions. After what we witnessed of the Lebanese using human shields in Aisha Bakkar, Raouche, Baabda, Sidon, Al-Jannah and most recently in Ain Saadeh:
1. Call for an immediate meeting of the Supreme Defense Council, take exceptional security measures, and raise preparedness to the maximum extent
2. Strengthening the deployment of the army and decisively activating the role of the security and intelligence services
3. Requiring all tenants and occupants to be duly registered, subjecting empty apartments to periodic monitoring, and imposing severe fines up to imprisonment for each unauthorized rental or occupancy.
After the Aisha Bakkar and Raouche incidents, I proposed the necessity of conducting a survey of empty apartments and regulating rents in the capital, Beirut, in an official meeting in the Beirut Emergency Room. However, this proposal was met with accusation campaigns from media outlets affiliated with Hezbollah and the deep state that it was a call for “espionage,” while its only goal was to protect citizens.
“So far, no practical steps have been taken.”
