Fady Mahouly
The Secretary of the Democratic Gathering, MP Hadi Abu Al-Hassan, revealed the details of the armed attack he was subjected to while participating in offering condolences in the town of Qubay, stressing that what happened was a “planned act.” He stressed that he was placing the case in the custody of the Lebanese state and the security and judicial agencies.
Abu Al-Hassan explained that the assailant tried to create a problem with him before he violently grabbed his hand, pointing out that he saw a hand grenade fall from his pocket, while a sound resembling “the impact of a capsule” was heard. He indicated that all his concern was to protect those present from the danger of the bomb exploding, revealing that the assailant later opened fire after escaping him, before one of the escorts intervened, but he asked him to stop immediately “so that there would not be a plot that would lead to blood.”
Abu Al-Hassan stressed that the people of Qubai “took an honorable and responsible position,” stressing that he returned to the hall after the incident to calm the people and prevent any reaction. He called on everyone to be rational and leave the issue to the judiciary and the competent authorities.
Abu Al-Hassan also thanked Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Presidents Walid Jumblatt and Taymour Jumblatt, in addition to MPs, ministers, officials, officers, and everyone who called, visited, or expressed their solidarity and denunciation of the incident.
He concluded by saying: “Nothing undermines our resolve or steadfastness. We believe in the state and its institutions, and we will not deviate from our positions, whatever the cost.”
