Negotiations are progressing...and the outstanding issues continue
Fady Mahouly
An American source told Al-Hadath that the Lebanese-Israeli negotiations are continuing without reaching a final agreement yet.
The source indicated that the US administration considers the progress achieved “important,” while the talks are focused on trying to reach a “security agreement.”
He pointed out that establishing a ceasefire in the Lebanese-Israeli negotiations is not currently linked to the withdrawal file or any comprehensive agreement.
He also clarified that the arms issue is present in the discussions, but far from “extreme proposals,” in light of the continued search for interim security understandings.
He considered that any joint field mechanism between Lebanon and Israel might form the basis for a broader security agreement.
In this context, official sources revealed to OTV that Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri informed President Joseph Aoun that Hezbollah will adhere to the ceasefire if the Lebanese delegation succeeds in extracting it.
The sources added that the priority of the current discussions is a ceasefire, provided that the files of withdrawal and the return of the displaced will be presented in subsequent rounds, while President Aoun keeps pace with the negotiations in continuous coordination with the Lebanese delegation.
