The first investigating judge in Beirut, Bilal Halawi, issued a decision to arrest animal rights activist Ghina Al-Nahfawi, after she refused to delete a video documenting a sheikh’s abuse of animals, by tying a dog to his car and dragging it in the town of Al-Azounieh, Aley District. Two days ago, Nahfawi had received a call from Baabda police station informing her that she must attend, based on a complaint of crimes of defamation, slander, and “inciting religious feelings” filed by the so-called Sheikh S. Sh. On April 28, Nahfawi posted a video clip on her social media pages, accompanying it with a comment in which she said, “A sheikh from the town of Al-Azouniyah dragged a dog tied behind his car before throwing it near a restaurant in the area.” She added that the dog was later rescued, calling on the Minister of Agriculture, Nizar Hani, and the Internal Security Forces to follow up on the case and hold the responsible person accountable.
