The Ministry of Agriculture is moving to regulate the bee sector... and a direct call to beekeepers

The Ministry of Agriculture announced, “Within the framework of the keenness of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Higher Technical Committee for Beekeeping and Honey Production to develop and regulate the beekeeping sector in Lebanon, in a way that ensures the protection of the rights of beekeepers, enhances the sustainability of the sector, and improves the quality of national production.”
The Ministry affirmed its commitment to the approach of dialogue and cooperation with various stakeholders and partners in this vital sector.”
She said in a statement: “Based on the importance of the participatory approach in preparing and developing regulatory policies, the Ministry of Agriculture invites concerned associations, unions, cooperatives and beekeepers, who have comments or suggestions related to some of the provisions of Resolution No. 79/1/2026 regulating beekeeping and honey production in Lebanon, to provide the Ministry with their written comments officially, whether in terms of the content of the decision or the executive mechanism associated with it, which the Ministry is currently working on completing its preparation and development taking into account the field reality and the applied capabilities of the sector. She confirms The Ministry fully understands the concerns and observations raised, especially in light of the economic, environmental and production challenges facing the beekeeping sector, stressing that the primary goal of the decision is to regulate the sector, protect it from random practices, enhance safety and quality, and ensure the sustainability of production in a way that serves the interests of beekeepers and preserves the rights of consumers and environmental wealth in Lebanon.
She continued: “Accordingly, the concerned authorities are requested to send their officially signed suggestions and comments to the Registry of the Ministry of Agriculture, within a maximum period of two weeks from the date of issuance of this statement, provided that the Supreme Technical Committee undertakes to study the various proposals received, and take into account everything that contributes to the development of the sector and is consistent with scientific and regulatory trends and available technical capabilities.”
It also announced that, “Based on the observations and proposals that will be received within the specified period, an expanded consultative meeting will be organized under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Nizar Hani, and with the participation of representatives of the relevant authorities and the sector, with the aim of discussing the observations presented in a scientific and participatory manner, and making appropriate decisions and recommendations in a way that achieves the national interest of the beekeeping and honey production sector in Lebanon.”
