Karami, for those who object to holding the exams: You can go to the House of Representatives
Fady Mahouly
Minister of Education Karami confirmed in two phone calls to the mayor of Qalaia, Hanna Edmond Daher, and the parish priest, Father Antonios Farah, that she is in daily contact with school principals in the region to take appropriate measures that suit everyone’s circumstances, and to discuss with them the possibility of holding exams and how to conduct them.
Karami stressed that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education is carrying out its duty to protect the educational path of students wherever they are. In light of the current circumstances, the Ministry is monitoring the situation closely, and it will not take any decision that does not take into account ensuring the safety of students, through follow-up with the security authorities.
She pointed out that these students, who number seventy-seven, are under the microscope, and that there will be no general amendments to the decisions, and that exceptional measures can be taken for these students when necessary.
Karami stressed that implementing the Council of Ministers’ decision to hold official exams for this year requires work, effort, and preparations, which is what the ministry is doing out of its duty, within the specified deadline that separates us from the date of holding the exams, which is one month from the date of the first start and two months for the second.
She pointed out that if any security developments arise, the decision to cancel the exams will then take seconds, and does not require any preparations.
In response to her question about the calls to submit her resignation due to her carrying out her national, legal and educational duty, the Minister of Education, Dr. Rima Karami, said that she is carrying out, and will continue to carry out this duty, based on her professional convictions, and the task assigned to her as Minister of Education and Higher Education, to implement the Cabinet decree.
She explained that those who object to conducting official examinations can resort to the House of Representatives to submit a proposal for an expedited, duplicate law requesting the cancellation of official examinations.
