Peace to Iran: Have mercy on our south
Fady Mahouly
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced at the conference launching the urgent humanitarian appeal from the palace, in the presence of ambassadors of donor countries and representatives of international organizations and United Nations agencies, that “our plan, through the High Relief Commission, includes one million displaced persons with cash amounts and 50,000 of our steadfast people in the south.”
He addressed the displaced: “Your dignified and safe return to your land is at the core of our responsibility and priorities.”
He said: "We chose the path of negotiation because it is the least costly option for Lebanon and its people and the shortest way to secure Israel's withdrawal and the return of people to their homes."
Salam addressed Iran: “Have mercy on our south, for we are the owners of a homeland, and Lebanon is not a card on anyone’s table, and the south is not a reserve front for anyone.”
Salam called on ambassadors of countries and representatives of international organizations to put pressure on Israel to stop its attacks on civilians and to stop the destruction of the cities of Jabal Amel by bulldozing homes and villages from Tire to Bint Jbeil and Nabatieh.
