The Media and Public Relations Unit at the Bank of Lebanon issued the following statement: “Today, Saturday, the building of the Bank of Lebanon branch in Nabatieh was directly targeted by Israeli forces. The Bank of Lebanon confirms that this targeting was not accidental or the result of collateral damage, but rather was a direct and deliberate attack on an official building affiliated with the Bank of Lebanon, which is an integral part of the Lebanese state institutions. While the damage, thank God, is limited to material damage, without any casualties among bank employees or security personnel who were not present in the building when the attack occurred, the Bank of Lebanon condemns this action in the strongest terms. The Governor of the Bank of Lebanon has made direct contacts with the highest authorities in the Lebanese State, most notably His Excellency the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, to put them in the loop on what happened and work to escalate this issue through official channels. Thanks to the efforts made by the Lebanese authorities and the relevant Lebanese embassies, an official complaint was submitted to the competent mechanism, condemning this attack and demanding that it be investigated and that the necessary measures be taken to prevent its recurrence. The Bank of Lebanon calls on the United States of America and other friendly countries to exercise all necessary efforts to ensure the protection of civilians, civilian facilities, and Lebanese state institutions, and to preserve them from the repercussions of the ongoing conflict, in compliance with the provisions of international humanitarian law and the rules that guarantee the protection of civilian objects.
