Baabda sources reported, “The round of negotiations held in Rome today was delayed by an hour for American reasons.” The sources reported that the research into the prisoners’ file was divided into two parts, the first related to the path of international law that governs prisoners, and the second related to the exchange of prisoner lists, noting that this matter is considered difficult for Lebanon because it does not have these lists. The sources explained that the military meeting dealt with the technical issue to consult on technical topics, vocabulary, and military phrases. She pointed out that the negotiation round witnessed three parallel meetings, which included a military meeting, another political meeting, and a third legal and border meeting. The sources confirmed that there is positivity in dealing with the prisoners’ file, noting that work is underway to include the International Red Cross in this file. She also indicated that the escalation in the south was not put on the negotiating table in Rome, but was discussed through the mechanism approved since October 27. The sources added that serious research into the model areas has begun, explaining that the Israeli side requested a presentation of the areas to research the geographical conditions and other surrounding data. The sources concluded by noting that there has been no progress at the level of the model areas, especially since the discussion is focused on the political aspect, stressing that the Lebanese delegation has many plans related to this issue, including the eastern town of Zawtar.
