The Lebanese Embassy in Washington announced today the signing of a tripartite framework agreement between Lebanon, the United States, and Israel, in the presence of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a step the embassy described as “a prominent milestone in the diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring security, stability, and prosperity to Lebanon.” The embassy explained that the agreement stipulates the implementation of two experimental zones that include an Israeli withdrawal, the deployment of the Lebanese army, and the disarmament of non-state armed groups, noting that these initial measures constitute “the first step towards a gradual and comprehensive withdrawal from all Lebanese territory in a way that guarantees full respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty.” The embassy confirmed that this achievement was achieved “under the leadership of President Joseph Aoun, in cooperation with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and through the coordinated efforts of the Lebanese constitutional institutions,” noting that Lebanon thus charted “a sovereign path based on dialogue instead of war.” The embassy concluded by saying that this agreement "is an important step towards restoring Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, establishing a permanent cessation of hostilities, enabling the displaced to return to their homes, and providing all Lebanese with the opportunity to live in peace, security and prosperity."
