Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed at the opening of the international conference honoring the late Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Ali Khamenei, that Iran’s opponents bet on weakening the country by targeting its leadership, stressing that they made a mistake in estimating the cohesion of the state and the people. Pezeshkian called for national unity and internal cohesion, considering that internal division is the main goal of the opponents. He said that if this unit had been secure, the enemy would not have been able to do what they did. He praised the role of Mr. Khamenei and considered him a symbol of independence and steadfastness, and pledged to continue the approach he was calling for. He stressed that Iran will continue to defend its interests and will not abandon its principles or rights under external pressure. Yesterday evening, the Lebanese Ambassador to Tehran, Ahmed Suwaid, held a dinner at the embassy headquarters in honor of Al-Khatib and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of the delegations of the Amal Movement and Hezbollah, and Iranian officials, including the former Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani. It was an occasion during which issues of Lebanon and the region and the prospects for the next stage were discussed. On Friday evening, Al-Khatib visited the headquarters of the Amal Movement in Tehran, where the official of the movement’s office in Iran, Salah Fahs, hosted a dinner in which the accompanying delegation, members of the movement’s delegation, and the Lebanese Ambassador Ahmed Suwaid participated. Al-Khatib met in Tehran with the head of the Ahl al-Bayt Council in the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ramadani, and it was an hour-long tour of developments in the region. Speaking during the meeting, he thanked the Islamic Republic for its stance towards Lebanon, the resistance, and the Shiite community in particular, “which preserves for Iran and its leaders this courageous stance that reflects loyalty to Lebanon and its people.” He said: "Iran's steadfastness in the face of the American-Zionist aggression formed an umbrella of protection for the countries of the region, especially the main Arab and Islamic countries, because the fall of Iran in this war would have formed a cover for the Zionist entity to continue its attack and aggression against these countries, but Iranian steadfastness prevented and is preventing the enemy from achieving its goals." He gave a comprehensive presentation of the results of the Israeli aggression against Lebanon, noting that our people presented a legendary model of steadfastness, patience and unity that astonished the world, despite the suffering of displacement and the human and material losses caused by the aggression. For his part, Ayatollah Ramadani thanked Al-Khatib for this meeting, and praised the steadfastness of the Lebanese people in this war, stressing that the Islamic Republic will remain alongside the people of Lebanon in this confrontation, no matter the sacrifices it costs. This morning, Al-Khatib and the accompanying delegation headed to the city of Qom, to visit the shrine of Lady Masumeh, and to hold meetings with spiritual authorities and seminary officials. The delegation includes the Mufti of Tire and Jabal Amel, Sheikh Hassan Abdullah, the Jaafari judge in Baalbek-Hermel, Sheikh Mahdi Al-Yahfoufi, the secretary, Abdel Salam Shukr, the media advisor, Wassef Awada, and Messrs. Muhammad Meshemish and Muhammad Shuaib.
