The Phalange Political Bureau held its regular meeting, headed by the party’s head, MP Sami Gemayel, and discussed the political and security developments and current developments in the country. After the discussion, it issued the following statement: 1- The visit of His Excellency the President of the Republic to Washington constitutes an opportunity to accelerate the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and complete the implementation of the framework formula, in a way that consolidates the confinement of weapons to the state, restores Lebanon’s Arab and international standing, and opens the door to reconstruction. The Political Bureau believes that announcing the start of the withdrawal of the Israeli army and the deployment of the Lebanese army in implementation of the implementation of the model areas constitutes a practical step on the path to ending the state of war and completing the implementation of the agreement. 2- The economic and living conditions constitute the basic foundation for the state to regain its sovereign decision, as sovereignty cannot be established or preserved in light of a collapsed economy and incapable institutions. From this standpoint, the Political Bureau believes that the stage requires accelerating the adoption of all reform laws, the most important of which are the laws for recovering deposits and restructuring banks, and starting to address the issue of depositors, in parallel with taking urgent decisions to address the electricity and waste crises, especially with the Costa Brava landfill approaching reaching its maximum capacity, in addition to strengthening partnership with the private sector and not mortgaging reforms waiting for external financing. 3- The convening of the General Assembly of the House of Representatives is considered a positive indication of a return to constitutional institutions and the primacy of the principle of debate under the dome of Parliament instead of the constant threat of resorting to the street. However, this positivity does not obscure the continuation of practices that harm the smooth running of the legislative process, especially burdening the agenda, adopting approximate voting and the chaos that accompanies it and confusion in determining the direction of voting. The Political Bureau reaffirms its permanent demand to adopt electronic voting. The Political Bureau believes that approving additional spending items without being accompanied by a budget, feasibility study, or economic impact, in light of the continuing financial crisis, brings to mind the approach that led to the collapse in 2019, and requires adopting the highest standards of discipline and transparency and linking any spending to a clear reform vision.
