On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump received Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the White House, where the two sides discussed bilateral relations and the situation in Lebanon and the region. During the meeting, Trump stressed that relations between the United States and Lebanon are “good,” stressing that Washington will continue to support Beirut. The US President said: “We will help Lebanon solve the problems,” adding: “We will help Lebanon a lot and we will treat it appropriately and with all respect.” Trump noted that Lebanon has been “damaged for decades,” stressing continued American support to help it overcome the challenges. The US President revealed that his country will hold talks about the Lebanese army assuming control of the villages from which Hezbollah withdraws, and will also discuss issues related to the pilot phase of the safe zone project in Lebanon. Regarding regional developments, Trump said that he would "take care of the Houthis" if they imposed a ban on Saudi ports. For his part, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun thanked his American counterpart for what he described as the “historic achievement” of signing the framework, stressing that “Lebanon’s return to stability and security is a matter of time.”
