The Minister of Information, Lawyer Dr., described Paul Morcos called the summit that brought together the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, with US President Donald Trump in Washington “historic,” noting that it was the first between a Lebanese president and an American president in nearly twenty years, and that it constituted official and practical American recognition of Lebanon’s national decision regarding its sovereignty over its land and its negotiating position. Minister Morcos explained in an interview with Al-Hadath TV that “the warm welcome received by President Aoun and the extension of the meeting for more than an hour are two basic indicators,” pointing out that “the political position was accompanied by practical steps that began with the United States’ support for the deployment of the Lebanese army, coinciding with the beginning of the Israeli withdrawal from the areas that are being agreed upon successively.” Morcos pointed out that "the results of the summit are not limited to supporting the army, but rather include American openness to encourage investments in Lebanon and to reconsider the decision to stop direct flights to Beirut, in addition to supporting the path of reforms, expressing his hope that these positions will be translated into more executive steps." He stressed that "the President of the Republic went to Washington based on a position demanding the complete Israeli withdrawal, the cessation of Israeli attacks, and enabling the Lebanese army to extend its authority over the entire national territory with the support of the United States and the international community." He stressed that "President Aoun's confirmation of his confidence in the leadership of the army and its members carries great significance, and renews confidence in the military institution." Minister Morcos stressed that "the position on which the recent presidential visit to the United States of America is based comes in the context of commitment to the constitution and the demand for the restoration of Lebanese sovereignty." Morcos explained, "President Aoun acted based on his constitutional oath to fulfill the sovereign principles of the constitution." Regarding the internal political differences, especially the positions of parties opposed to the visit, such as Hezbollah, Minister Morcos considered that “discussion in a democratic society is permissible and required,” calling from his position as Minister of Information to “interact with political events with the utmost freedom,” but staying away from “hate speech” and preserving the rights and dignity of others.” On the field level, Morcos spoke about the current movements in southern Lebanon, including the army’s deployment and partial Israeli withdrawals, as “delicate and sensitive foundational stages, and from here there are some difficulties.” He stressed that "these steps represent basic foundations that must be built upon to reach the desired goal, which is complete Israeli withdrawal outside the Lebanese borders." Morcos concluded by pointing out, "There is an official consensus and a clear determination, whether at the level of the Presidency of the Republic or the government's presidency and members, to adhere to the demand for complete withdrawal, which is clearly expressed in the Council of Ministers and in periodic ministerial meetings."
