On the occasion of the six-year anniversary of the Beirut Port bombing, the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, said: “On this day every year, all of Lebanon stands before an unhealed wound and a memory that has not been extinguished. We recall the horror of that moment when Beirut shook to its depths, when the port, the lifeline and the economy, turned into the scene of a tragedy the likes of which our modern history has not witnessed. It was a moment of explosion that changed the face of the capital, claimed innocent lives, left hundreds wounded, and destruction that reached stones before it reached hearts. He added: Today we remember every martyr who fell unjustly, and every family has been waiting for years for an answer worthy of the sacrifice they made. We remember the children who were deprived of the embrace of their fathers and mothers, and the mothers who are still waiting for justice more than they wait for time to erase the pain. He continued: This anniversary is not just a moment of mourning, but rather a permanent reminder of a duty that is not subject to statute of limitations: the duty of truth, justice, and accountability. The wound will not heal, and the nation will not regain its confidence in its institutions, unless the process of justice is completed to its end. He said: From this standpoint, I confirm that the issuance of the indictment decision by the judicial investigator has become a necessity that cannot wait any longer. Justice does not mean revenge, but rather it means achieving the right, revealing the complete and undiminished truth, and holding accountable everyone who neglected, neglected, or caused this disaster, regardless of their position or description. Justice cannot be divided, nor does the law exclude anyone from its authority. He added: Today more than ever before, the Lebanese judiciary is called upon to prove its independence and its ability to do justice to the victims. The indictment is not just a legal procedure, but rather a right for the martyrs over the living, and a right for their families who have waited a long time for the souls of their children to rest and for their suffering to stop at the limits of complete knowledge of the truth. He added: As we stand today before this painful anniversary, we renew our pledge that the rule of law is the only guarantee that this tragedy will not be repeated, and that Lebanon, which has known steadfastness in the darkest circumstances, is able to emerge from its ordeal stronger, when full justice is achieved, and when every citizen feels that his blood and dignity are protected before the law. President Aoun concluded by saying: May the pure souls of the martyrs rest in peace, and may their memory inspire us with an unwavering determination to strive for truth and justice, so that the heart of every mother will be reassured, the spirit of every martyr will be calm, and Lebanon, with its institutions and state, will regain its image that it deserves among the nations.
