Representative Ashraf Rifi considered that “what happened yesterday in Iran in terms of broad military and security appointments, attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei, is not just a change in leadership, but rather a full-fledged coup within a regime that is experiencing a leadership crisis.” He said in a statement: “Mojtaba Khamenei has been absent from the scene for months, and his health condition is surrounded by serious question marks, yet fateful decisions are being taken in his name that redistribute power in the army and security services. The question that imposes itself: Who actually rules Iran? And who makes decisions in the name of a man absent from the scene?” Rifi pointed out, “What is happening is not a natural transfer of power, but rather a struggle for power within the authority, and it may be an indication of the beginning of the collapse of the balances on which Khamenei’s regime was based.” In conclusion, Rifi stressed that "Iran is facing a turning point, and what is happening today may be much more dangerous than mere appointments: it is a struggle over who has the decision-making power in Tehran."
