The Ministry of Public Works and Transport responded on the ground to the heavy rainstorm that Lebanon witnessed on Saturday evening, August 29, and its teams were deployed in all the black spots that are considered the most vulnerable to water accumulation on the roads within its scope of responsibility, to monitor the drainage networks and intervene when needed. When the rains reached their peak intensity, a limited and temporary accumulation of water was recorded on the Batroun-Madfoun Highway, as a result of large quantities flowing over a short period of time. The water quickly receded within minutes, with the drainage network continuing to perform its work, and traffic returned to normal. Also, no water accumulations were recorded in the known black spots within the areas that witnessed higher than usual precipitation rates This summer storm constituted an early field test of the readiness of the Ministry’s teams and drainage networks before the rainy season, and the review of the data recorded during it and follow-up and maintenance work in the black spots will be completed, in a way that reduces the risks of water accumulation and maintains traffic safety.
