US President Donald Trump announced yesterday, Wednesday, that “the United States is close to achieving its goals in the war against Iran,” threatening two or three weeks of severe strikes.
In a speech from the White House in which he addressed the conflict with Iran that has been ongoing for more than a month, Trump said: “We are very close” to ending the war.
He pointed out that “the United States has achieved decisive and overwhelming victories in Iran since the start of the American-Israeli operations on February 28.”
He also stressed that “the military operation in Iran completely destroyed its nuclear project,” stressing that Tehran “will never obtain nuclear weapons.”
He added that the war against Iran caused its military and economic destruction, and that it would continue until all its goals were achieved, pledging “not to abandon the Gulf states” that Iran has been targeting since the start of the war.
On the other hand, Trump indicated that there are ongoing discussions regarding Iran without revealing details, in what appears to be a reference to diplomatic efforts to end the war. But he threatened to “return Iran to the stone age” if an agreement was not reached, by targeting power plants.
He said, “Regime change in Iran was not our goal, but it has already happened.” Regarding the crisis of the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has closed, he called on the countries that depend on it to “take charge of it,” adding: “Go to the Strait, seize it, protect it, and use it.”
He concluded by saying: “We did not need the Strait of Hormuz, and we will not need it.”
