UNIFIL expressed its grave concern on Thursday over the dangerous escalation of hostilities along the Blue Line last night. She said in a statement: Peacekeeping forces monitored the launching of more than 120 projectiles from Lebanese territory towards Israel, and also monitored seven Israeli air strikes and more than 120 artillery shelling incidents in response. All of these actions constitute serious violations of Resolution 1701. She continued: The recent escalation along the Blue Line is once again causing the displacement of hundreds of thousands of residents and the widespread destruction of neighborhoods and villages. Reports indicate that hundreds were killed and others injured. As is always the case in conflicts, civilians are the most affected. Peacekeepers remain on the ground, monitoring and reporting developments impartially, coordinating between parties, and facilitating - where possible - the provision of humanitarian support and the protection of civilians. She concluded: We continue to urge the parties to end hostilities, and to recommit to the full implementation of Resolution 1701, for the safety and security of civilians on both sides of the Blue Line. She said that UNIFIL is in close contact with Lebanese and Israeli officials, and we are ready to support them in this matter, in any way possible.
