Bint Jbeil Municipality: Israeli crimes will not destroy our will to live, steadfastness and resistance
Fady Mahouly
The Bint Jbeil Municipality said in a statement that despite the announcement of a ceasefire and the entry into force of the truce in Lebanon since April 17, 2026, the Israeli enemy continues to target the city of Bint Jbeil, through what is known as “domicide,” through direct bombing, booby-trapping, bombing, and systematic demolition of residential units (maps show the destruction of hundreds of residential units).
She added: The enemy continues the policy of “urban genocide” in a number of villages, specifically in the city of Bint Jbeil, where it deliberately erased entire residential neighborhoods, and destroyed infrastructure and historical monuments, especially in the old square and the Jama’na neighborhood, which led to the obliteration of the city’s heritage identity, and the destruction of the Grand Mosque, whose construction dates back more than 400 years.
Aerial photographs also show that the enemy continues to commit “ecocide,” by burning agricultural lands, forests, and forests using phosphorus and incendiary bombs. In Bint Jbeil in particular, these photos document the extent of the destruction that affected orchards, fields and green spaces, including thousands of old olive trees and pine trees.
The municipality of Bint Jbeil, in the face of the horror of these systematic crimes, confirms that what is happening constitutes a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms, most notably the rules of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit the targeting of civilians, civilian property, and infrastructure.
Accordingly, the Bint Jbeil Municipality calls on the Lebanese state to assume its full national responsibilities, and to take urgent action through diplomatic and legal channels, to document these crimes and submit them to the competent international authorities, and to work to prosecute their perpetrators and hold them accountable before international courts.
The municipality appealed to the international community, the United Nations, the Security Council, and all human rights and humanitarian organizations to take immediate action and put serious pressure to stop these ongoing violations, and to oblige the Israeli enemy to respect the ceasefire, abide by international law, and immediately withdraw from Bint Jbeil and all the villages in which it is currently located, to enable the people to return to their towns and begin reconstruction.
The municipality called for providing urgent support for relief and reconstruction operations, compensating those affected, and preserving what remains of the city’s historical, cultural and environmental heritage.
The Bint Jbeil Municipality confirmed that these crimes will not destroy the will to live, steadfastness and resistance of the people of the city, and will remain stronger than all attempts at genocide and displacement committed by the Israeli enemy.
