Salam: Disarmament has begun... and there is no place for two armies in Lebanon

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced that Lebanon will not sign any agreement that does not include a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from its lands, stressing the rejection of any formula that establishes a so-called “buffer zone” that prevents the return of displaced persons to their villages and towns.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Salam said that the government took bold decisions and achieved progress in the issue of illegal weapons and preventing military operations carried out by Hezbollah.
He stressed that the state's monopoly on weapons is an internal Lebanese interest, adding that the state cannot have two armies, and that the disarmament path will not be immediate, but it has begun with serious steps.
He also called on the Donald Trump administration to pressure Israel to reduce its demands and stop its military operations, considering that stability requires balanced solutions that preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty and secure the return of civilians.
