US Vice President Donald Trump announced that "the 60-day period stipulated in the memorandum of understanding approved by the president and Iranian leaders began today, Thursday."
He said: "I say that the 60-day period officially began today, and we will begin the countdown today."
US Vice President J.D. Vance indicated that the final negotiations will set conditions regarding the Strait of Hormuz beyond 60 days.
The US Vice President said that Israel must respect the peace process with Iran, which he said was good for them, adding that attacks that resulted in civilian deaths in Beirut were “unacceptable.”
Regarding Lebanon, De Vance said that part of the goals of the peace agreement between Washington and Iran is to enable the Lebanese government to manage security in the south of the country, instead of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group.
Vance added to reporters: “What we want is for the Lebanese government, the elected representative of the Lebanese people, to manage security in southern Lebanon, so that Hezbollah does not control the country, and the Israelis do not feel threatened, and thus the Israelis do not launch attacks on southern Lebanon or Beirut.”
He continued: "We expect Israel and Hezbollah to adhere to the agreement."
