Former President of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace, where they discussed the future of Lebanon and the south, and ways to stabilize stability in both Lebanon and Syria, in a meeting that reflects Jumblatt’s position and status among capitals active in charting the paths of the next stage.
"Electronic News" learned that the meeting discussed the repercussions of the framework agreement that was signed between Lebanon and Israel on June 26, in addition to the importance of maintaining stability in both Lebanon and Syria. Jumblatt also expressed his regret at excluding France from the negotiating track, despite its historical and pivotal role in supporting Lebanon.
The two sides stressed the need for Paris to be a partner in any future path or arrangements related to southern Lebanon, whether in terms of the deployment of international forces or reopening the discussion regarding the extension of the United Nations forces operating in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
