A strong earthquake struck Colombia and other countries in Latin America on Monday, causing buildings to shake in the capital, Bogota, and in Quito, the capital of Ecuador.
The earthquake, which measured 6.6 degrees according to the Colombian Geological Survey and 7.4 degrees according to the US Geological Survey, occurred at a depth of approximately 100 kilometers.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located near San José del Palmar in the Chocó region in western Colombia. Buildings in Bogotá were evacuated, according to what AFP journalists reported at the site.
