The House of Representatives approved the law aimed at repealing Article 104 of the Media Law, which stipulates that there will be criminal prosecution for those who publish false news.
The Council also approved the law proposal aimed at abolishing the death penalty in Lebanon after introducing amendments to it.
Representative Abdul Rahman Al-Bizri pointed out at the beginning of the session that “there is a proposal submitted by 23 representatives to separate the law abolishing the death penalty from the general amnesty law, by amending Article 1 of the general amnesty law.”
He pointed out that, under the law and its amendments, it was decided to abolish the death penalty and replace it with life imprisonment with hard labor, while the death penalty for new convicts after the law was passed was replaced with aggravated hard labor.
