Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam delivered a speech this evening, in light of the continued bombing of Beirut, its southern suburbs, and areas in the south and the Bekaa, stressing that the government is working continuously to stop the war and neutralize Lebanon from conflicts. Salam said that more than ten days have passed since the outbreak of the war, which the government repeatedly warned against dragging Lebanon into, stressing that this war was not wanted by Lebanon, and that efforts continue day and night to stop it. He added that Lebanon cannot accept, in any way, to return to being a free arena for other people's wars, referring to an initiative launched by the President of the Republic to negotiate with the aim of getting the country out of the deep crisis it is going through. Regarding internal affairs, Salam stressed the Lebanese people’s aspiration for the Lebanese Army to play its full role in extending state authority over the entire Lebanese territory, expressing his confidence in the awareness of the Lebanese people and not being drawn into fabricated news, especially the statement that was published in the name of “National Officers.” He described this statement as suspicious, considering it far from patriotic and threatening the unity of the army and its national role, warning against promoting false news and rumors through the media and social media platforms. He also condemned the use of hate language, verbal violence, and sectarian incitement, stressing that the stage that Lebanon is going through is sensitive and requires wisdom and vigilance to protect the country from the dangers of division. He pointed out that freedom of expression is protected in the constitution and laws, but it cannot be exploited to spread hatred or stir up strife, stressing that whoever does so will be prosecuted. Salam addressed hundreds of thousands of displaced people from the south, the Bekaa, and the southern suburbs who were forced to leave their homes, stressing that “all of Lebanon is your home and the state is by your side.” He explained that the government has worked over the past few days to prepare shelter centers in various regions to receive them, despite its awareness that this does not compensate for their homes and land. He stressed that work is continuing around the clock to stop the war and ensure the safe and dignified return of the displaced to their homes as soon as possible. He also addressed all the Lebanese, expressing his understanding of the concern that many feel about the future of the country, stressing that the government will not back down from its position to restore the decision of war and peace, and end what he described as the “new support adventure” that has only brought more victims, destruction and displacement. Salam concluded his speech by thanking the Lebanese who received the displaced in their areas, and to the brotherly and friendly countries that rushed to provide humanitarian aid and support to alleviate the suffering of those affected, praying to God to protect Lebanon and its people.
